CSU Soccer Set for Home Opener

COLUMBUS – For the first time in 2017, the second-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team will play on its home field, squaring off with North Georgia on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.
 
Wednesday is Burger King Sea of Red Night and all fans are encouraged to wear red for the match.

Columbus State (3-0-0, 1-0-0 PBC) rolled over USC Aiken 4-0 in Saturday's Peach Belt Conference opener. Cassandra Wade started the scoring, while Riley Clark netted a pair of goals and Kimmy May tallied her first collegiate goal.

"North Georgia has always been a tough matchup and Wednesday night will be no exception. We have played a lot of close matches and we've been fortunate to come out on top, but we will need to have our best on Wednesday if we want to get a result."
 
Series History
 
Columbus State and North Georgia will be meeting for the 21st time on Wednesday night, with the Lady Cougars leading the series 17-2-1. The two sides have met eight times in the last three seasons, with two NCAA Tournament and three PBC Championship matches. CSU has won all eight.
 
About North Georgia
 
UNG (3-1-2, 1-0-0) is unbeaten in its last five matches after dropping the season opener against Lee.
 
The Nighthawks have played five consecutive overtime matches, posting a 3-0-2 record, including a 3-2 double overtime win over Georgia College Saturday.
 
North Georgia returns four starters off the 2016 team that went 15-3-3 overall.
 
Renee VanHorn and Taylor Malasek lead the Nighthawks with three goals each through six matches.
 
CSU Notes
 
Columbus State opens the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday night, where the Lady Cougars are unbeaten in their last 34 matches (33-0-1).
 
After four more goals on Saturday, the Lady Cougars continue to lead the country in scoring at 5.33 goals per match.
 
Riley Clark was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season after two goals and an assist at USC Aiken.
 
The sophomore leads the conference in goals (5) and points (11), both of which have already surpassed her total from last season.
