COLUMBUS – After suffering its first home loss in nearly four years, the second-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team will take the field Saturday against UNC Pembroke. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.

Saturday is Military Appreciation Day, with all military in attendance receiving free admission and special recognition at the match.

UNC Pembroke netted a goal in the seventh minute of action and was able to hold on for a 1-0 victory despite being outshot 22-6 by the Lady Cougars. It marked the only conference loss of the 2016 season for CSU.

Saturday will be the 21
st all-time meeting between the two programs, with CSU holding a decisive 16-3-1 record against the Braves. The Lady Cougars are 7-1-1 in the series at home.

UNCP (3-2-0, 1-0-0) opened conference play on Wednesday night with a 1-0 road victory at Clayton State.

Alexis Pittman scored the lone goal for the Braves, while Gina Ryan went the distance in goal for her second shutout of the season.

UNC Pembroke is tied with Flagler for the fewest goals allowed to this point, as the Braves have only allowed three tallies in five matches.

However, the UNCP offense has only netted seven goals this season led by Pittman's two.

Columbus State will be looking for a repeat of 2016, when it ran off 16 consecutive victories after dropping its only conference game of the season.

The Lady Cougars have not lost back-to-back matches since September of 2015.

Wednesday was the second multi-goal performance of
Cassandra Wade's career, as the senior moved into seventh place on the all-time goal-scoring list at CSU.
