COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University women's basketball team fell 69-64 in overtime to Francis Marion on Monday. The Peach Belt Conference contest was played inside the Lumpkin Center.

Trailing 53-41 with eight minutes to play, Columbus State (8-5, 6-3 PBC) began its charge back. Eboni Williams scored four straight points, Tatiana Wayne split two free throws and Machala Raymonville put in the next seven to cut the lead down to just one.

Tatum Jarvis then tied the game at 54 apiece with two free throws, marking the first time the game was level since the early stages of the third quarter.

Francis Marion (10-4, 7-2) immediately pushed the lead back out to six, but the Lady Cougars had another answer. Zoi Thompson and Wayne scored to bring CSU within two, and Chrisalyn Boston tied the game at 62 with 39 seconds remaining.

The Lady Cougars forced a turnover on the ensuing possession and had a chance to win it, but Thompson's go-ahead attempt was blocked and FMU missed its final look to send the game into overtime.

CSU went ice cold in the five-minute extra period, going 0-for-7 from the field and 2-for-8 from the free throw line as the Patriots outscored the Lady Cougars 7-2 for the victory.

"Give Francis Marion a lot of credit," head coach Anita Howard said. "They were the better team tonight. I was upset with all of the turnovers and missed free throws, and we just did not play well down the stretch."

Francis Marion by seven in the opening quarter before the Lady Cougars rallied to trail by just two after 10 minutes. CSU then responded with a strong second quarter and took a 33-28 lead into halftime.

The Patriots put the Lady Cougars in a hole after the break behind a 20-6 effort in the third quarter.

Tatiana Wayne scored 24 points on the afternoon to pace CSU. Machala Raymonville finished with 14, while Tatum Jarvis went 11-of-12 from the free throw line and tallied 13 points.

CSU shot a season-low 23.1 percent (18-for-78) from the field and made just 3-of-15 3-point attempts. Despite the overtime struggles, the Lady Cougars were 25-for-34 from the free throw line for the game.

Columbus State will wrap up the three-game homestand against Georgia College on Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
