COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University women's basketball team got back in the win column on Monday night with an 82-56 victory over Georgia College. The Peach Belt Conference contest was played in the Lumpkin Center.
 
Columbus State (9-6, 7-4 PBC) knocked down 12 3-pointers in the victory, its second-highest total of the season.
 
Tatiana Wayne finished with a game-high 29 points on 9-of-17 shooting overall and 5-of-9 from 3. Machala Raymonville added 18 and Tatum Jarvis pitched in 17 of her own.
 
"It's good to get back on the winning side," head coach Anita Howard said. "We changed some things up defensively and saw a lot of shots go in, so I'm pleased with the outcome tonight and hope we can use it going forward."
 
The 3-pointers started falling early for the Lady Cougars. Wayne, Jarvis and Raymonville each hit from outside as the lead changed hands seven times in the first eight minutes. Raymonville and Jarvis each connected again from 3 in the closing stretches of the quarter and CSU led 24-17 after 10 minutes.
 
Wayne hit her second of the night to start the second quarter, followed by two more from Jarvis as the Lady Cougars saw their lead balloon out to 17 with four minutes until halftime.
 
Georgia College (10-7, 7-4) closed the half on a mini-run and cut the CSU lead to 12 at halftime.
 
Wayne's third 3-pointer of the night pushed the lead back to 17 at 46-29 and left the Lady Cougars looking like they would put it on cruise control.
 
GC has a stiff answer though, scoring the next 15 points to get within two and had two free throw attempts to tie the game at 46-all. The Bobcats missed the tying free throw attempts however, and CSU took advantage.
 
Kaihla Carter converted a three-point play off a steal and then drained a step-back 3-pointer at the buzzer to close the third on a personal 6-0 run with the Lady Cougars in front 52-44.
 
It was all Columbus State the rest of the way, as the Lady Cougars outscored GC 30-12 over the final 10 minutes.
 
CSU shot 48.3 percent (29-for-60) for the game, its best shooting night since mid-December. The Lady Cougars also turned 18 GC turnovers into 37 points.
 
Columbus State is at home again on Wednesday night, as the Lady Cougars will host Flagler. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
