Cougars Shoot for Second Straight Road Win

COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University men's basketball team will try for its second straight win away from home on Wednesday, as the Cougars take on Georgia Southwestern. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Americus.

Last Time Out
 
Columbus State (3-6, 3-3 PBC) tallied a 66-60 win Saturday at Augusta, its first win on the road against the Jaguars since 2004. Rudy Winters was the only Cougar in double figures with 12 points.

"We played with a lot of effort and intensity on the defensive end Saturday and we are going to need that again at Georgia Southwestern. Ben Hicks has done a great job with that program and they are playing great basketball right now."
 
Series History
 
Columbus State holds a slim 21-18 edge in the all-time series as the two programs are set to meet for the 40th time. The Cougars have won three straight overall against the Hurricanes.
 
Last Meeting
 
The Cougars used a strong second half to pick up an 88-75 win and clinch a share of the Peach Belt Conference West Division title. Darius Joell, JaCori Payne and Marcus Dixon all finished in double figures in the win.
 
About Georgia Southwestern
 
Georgia Southwestern (7-3, 3-3) lost its first three conference games, but has evened its league record with three straight wins.
 
The Canes downed Lander by two before overtime victories against Georgia College and Young Harris.
 
GSW ranks in the top half of the league in 3-point shooting, knocking down 7.7 per game at a 35.5 percent clip.
 
Former Cougar R.J. Sessions leads the way for the Canes at 15.5 points per game and is the reigning PBC Player of the Week.
 
CSU Notes
 
After allowing at least 90 points in its three previous games, the Cougars locked down defensively Saturday and gave up a season-low 60.
 
In their three wins this season, the Cougars are allowing just 63.3 points per game, while surrendering 89.2 in six losses.
 
Saturday's win over Augusta was just the second time this season JaCori Payne hasn't led the Cougars in scoring, with Rudy Winters taking the top spot in both.
 
The victory also marked the first time Payne had not reached double figures in 16 games.
