DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The third-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team finished off an undefeated regular season with a 4-1 win at North Georgia on Saturday night.
Â
Columbus State finishes off the regular season at 14-0-1 overall and a perfect 10-0-0 in Peach Belt Conference play. It's the second regular season without a loss for the Lady Cougars, a feat they also accomplished in 2014.
Â
"I'm really proud of our efficiency tonight," head coach
Jay Entlich said. "We scored some really good goals and
Riley Clark was outstanding.
Â
"Finishing off an undefeated regular season is a great accomplishment. It's a testament to how hard this coaching staff and these players have worked this season, but we know we have a lot left we still want to accomplish before this season ends."
Â
Saturday night belonged to
Riley Clark, as the junior collected the second hat trick of her career.
Â
The first of the trio came in the 24
th minute, as
Kimmy May lofted a ball into the center of the box and Clark headed it up and over the keeper to start the scoring.
Â
The second happened at exactly 26 minutes, this time off a pass from
Flo Spano. Clark took the pass from Spano with a spin and back heeled it into the net for the highlight reel finish.
Â
Clark's tallies were the only scoring in the first half, but only half of the Lady Cougar total on the evening.
Â
The Peachtree City, Ga. native finished off the hat trick in the 52
nd minute, one-timing home a perfect pass from May. Clark also had three goals against Georgia Southwestern last season.
Â
Brooke Nail piled on in the 55
th minute with her seventh goal of the season to stretch the margin out to 4-0.
Â
North Georgia (10-4-1, 6-3-1) finally got on the board in the 73
rd minute, but the Lady Cougars kept them out of the scoring column the rest of the way.
Â
Columbus State now turns its attention to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, set to begin on Tuesday. The Lady Cougars are the top seed and will host eighth-seeded Clayton State in the quarterfinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.
