GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Columbus State University women's basketball team fell for the first time this season losing on the road at Lander 117-82.

Sophomore LeeAysia Williamson was one of four Lady Cougars that finished with double figures in scoring, as she led the team with 18 points on the afternoon. Seniors Tatiana Wayne and Tatum Jarvis had 16 and 15 points respectively while Naomi Holloway finished with 11.

Lander came out with a blistering shooting performance in the first quarter and it didn't let up all game. The Bearcats shot 69-percent from the field in the opening quarter and coupled with the early foul trouble for the Lady Cougars it allowed them to open up a 19-point lead after the first.

"Our youth in several positions showed tonight," head coach Anita Howard said. "Credit goes to Lander as they smacked us in the mouth early and we weren't able to recover the rest of the game."

Columbus State (3-1) allowed 71 points in the first half which is five more points than the Lady Cougars average giving up per game this entire season. As they struggled to get stops from the field, Lander also took advantage of the whistles blown against the Lady Cougars as the Bearcats attempted 44 total free throws.

The 35-point loss is the largest loss for Coach Howard since arriving at Columbus State and the largest for the Lady Cougars since a 33-point loss to Clayton State in 2013.

The Lady Cougars shot 40.0 percent (32-for-80) from the field and went 4-of-29 from the 3-point line.

Columbus State will back at home this upcoming Wednesday, December 5 to take on the USC Aiken Pacers. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
