PENSACOLA, Florida - The Columbus State University women's basketball team lost a close one on the road falling to West Florida 79-73.

Sophomore LeeAysia Williamson put up her best performance of the season as she led all scorers with 28 points on 10-21 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. Tatiana Wayne finished with 21 points while Naomi Holloway rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points on the afternoon.

"Our defense really got things going from the start to give us easy looks as the game progressed into the fourth quarter," head coach Anita Howard said. "Credit to West Florida as they never gave up and battled back. We struggled from the field offensively in that final quarter and unfortunately let one slip away."

After a bucket to open up their largest lead of the game at 11 to start the fourth quarter, West Florida responded with an 11-0 run to tie the score with just 3:31 left. The game proceeded to go back and forth over the next few minutes with both Williamson and Wayne hitting threes to keep the Lady Cougars in it. CSU had chances to tie or take the lead in the final minute but misses by Anna Stewart and Wayne along with a turnover allowed the Argonauts to then seal the game at the free throw line.

The Lady Cougars couldn't quite get things going in the fourth quarter after their opening bucket. They were outscored 29-14 overall in the quarter while shooting just 3-of-15 in the final ten minutes of action.

Down by seven with over seven minutes remaining in the second quarter, the game turned into the Williamson show for Columbus State. The sophomore proceeded to score 16 points including two three-pointers to flip the game giving CSU the lead at the halftime break.

The Lady Cougars shot 32.5 percent (26-for-80) from the field and went 9-of-24 from the 3-point line.

Columbus State will head back home to Columbus, Ga. Monday, Dec. 17 to take on UNC Pembroke. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
