WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Columbus State University softball team had the bats going early as it picked up a split of Saturday's doubleheader at Palm Beach Atlantic.

Columbus State (2-2) held on for a 7-6 victory in the opening game, before Palm Beach Atlantic took game two 8-0 in five innings.

CSU will continue its road trip at Lynn on Sunday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Game One
Â
The Lady Cougars jumped on the board immediately on Saturday, getting its first three runners on base without the ball leaving the infield.
Elizabeth Perdue started the scoring with a sacrifice fly that brought home
Keeli Waugh, and
JoJo Beyer added a sac fly of her own later in the inning that scored
Kia Smith.

The top of the order was at it again in the second, with Waugh and Smith reaching again.
McKenzie Fagioli then got a friendly bounce on a hard-hit groundball to shortstop that ended up in the outfield for a RBI double. Perdue followed with a two-run double into the right-centerfield gap to make it a 5-0 contest.

Palm Beach Atlantic got on the board with two in the bottom half of the second, but the Lady Cougars answered right back. Another RBI knock from Fagioli scored
Mary Horne and Perdue again brought home Waugh with a sacrifice fly to get the lead back out to five.

PBA clawed back into the game with a run in the third and fourth innings and two more in the sixth to trail by just one, but
Darby Demarest finished off the complete game with a pair of strikeouts in the seventh.

Demarest (1-0) struck out six on the afternoon, allowing six runs (four earned).

Fagioli was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs, while Perdue drove in four.

Game Two
Â
The roles were reversed in game two, as Palm Beach Atlantic (4-2) plated six runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.

The Sailfish added a run in the third and another in the fourth to reach the eight-run lead they needed to shorten the game.
Â
Columbus State threatened with the bases loaded in the second and two more on in the third, but was unable to get a run across.
Â
Peyton Sorrells (1-1) lasted just one inning and took the loss for the Lady Cougars.

Kia Smith had a 2-for-3 contest, including a double in the first inning.
