MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Trailing by 23 in the final minute of the third quarter, the Columbus State University women's basketball team came flying back and downed Georgia College 67-61 in overtime on Wednesday night. The Peach Belt Conference contest was played in Milledgeville.

Tatiana Wayne scored a career-high 38 points to lead the Lady Cougars to victory. The 38-point output was tied for the third-highest single game total in CSU program history. Jasmine Herndon finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

"I'm so proud of this team," head coach Anita Howard said. "We finally showed some energy and effort in the fourth quarter and overtime and this group of ladies kept fighting."

With 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Columbus State (15-8, 13-6 PBC) was staring at a nearly insurmountable 49-26 deficit. Wayne buried a 3-pointer and Herndon knocked down a shot before the quarter ended to make it 49-31.

Wayne kept the comeback rolling with a long ball to open the fourth quarter and Eboni Williams made it a 10-0 run with a layup.

Georgia College (15-10, 12-7) seemed to stem the tide with back-to-back makes that stretched the lead back to 16, but the Lady Cougars kept coming.

Wayne scored off an offensive rebound by Kristian Carter, then grabbed a pair of defensive boards and went the length of the court for baskets to bring CSU with 10 at 52-42. Herndon picked up an offensive rebounds and stuck it back in to cut the lead to eight and the Lady Cougars had it down to six with three minutes to go.

Columbus State's comeback effort stalled at that point however, as the Lady Cougars missed on five straight tries to get closer. Carter drew a foul after another offensive rebound and split a pair of free throws to cut it to five.

Wayne then got a steal and layup, followed by the same from Machala Raymonville and the Lady Cougars were within one at 54-53. The Bobcats pushed it back to three with a bucket, but Wayne scored again on the other end to make it a one-point game again.

Raymonville forced a turnover inside of 10 seconds and had a chance to put CSU in front in the closing seconds, but her shot fell off and the Bobcats got the rebound with 4.4 seconds on the clock. The Lady Cougars immediately fouled, however the GC player shoved a Lady Cougar, drawing a technical foul.

Wayne made 1-of-2 free throws to tie the game and had a shot to win at the buzzer, however her shot didn't go and the game went to overtime.

CSU never trailed in the extra period, getting seven points from Wayne to complete the come-from-behind victory.

The Lady Cougars shot just 23-of-78 (29.5 percent) from the field, but forced 31 Georgia College turnovers.

Columbus State returns home on Saturday to take on Young Harris. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. inside the Lumpkin Center.
