COLUMBUS – After a slow start to the day, the Columbus State University women's basketball team kicked things into high gear and downed Young Harris 89-57. The Peach Belt Conference contest was played in front of more than 2,700 people as part of Fort Benning Appreciation Day in the Lumpkin Center.

Five Lady Cougars finished in double figures, led by the first career double-double for Tatiana Wayne. The junior finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Machala Raymonville added 16, with 15 off the bench from Tatum Jarvis. Eboni Williams chipped in 14 points and Chrisalyn Boston pitched in 10.

"This was the second straight game with a slow start, but we woke up in the second quarter and started playing Lady Cougar basketball," head coach Anita Howard said. "We can't afford to have this kind of start on Wednesday at Flagler."

Columbus State (16-8, 14-6 PBC) fell behind 14-10 after the opening quarter, but quickly jumped in front.

Raymonville gave the Lady Cougars the lead with a 3-ponter to break an 18-all tie and the Lady Cougars took off. Wayne scored six straight points as part of a 12-0 run that pushed the lead out to double figures at 33-20.

The lead was 11 at the break and kept growing after halftime. CSU scored the first 10 points of the third quarter to edge in front by 21. The Lady Cougars had a 10-0 run late in the quarter and led 61-36 heading to the final 10 minutes.

It was more of the same in the final quarter, with the margin growing as wide as 37 before settling on the final score.

CSU finished 34-for-75 (45.3 percent) from the field and 8-for-27 from the 3-point line.

Columbus State will head on the road to Flagler for the final road game of the regular season on Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
