ATLANTA – The third-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team notched a 6-3 victory over NCAA Division III No. 2 Emory on Sunday. The match was played in Atlanta.

"This was an impressive win for us," head coach
Evan Isaacs said. "We have a young group and I thought they really showed a lot of toughness today against a very good Emory team."

Columbus State (3-0) got off to a good start in doubles play, taking second and third doubles by 8-5 margins.
Marleen Tilgner and
Candice Paya won their match at second doubles, while
Giorgia Vitale and
Natalia Kattah Paz did the same at the third spot.

Beatriz Lopez and
Noa Davico suffered a 9-7 loss at the top spot against the pair ranked second in the country in Division III.

The Lady Cougars then grabbed four victories in singles to wrap up the match

Third-ranked Lopez won in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 at the first position. Paya and Tilgner each made quick work at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Paya won 6-2, 6-2, while Tilgner downed her opponent 6-1, 6-0. Vitale fell behind a set, but battled back for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win in third singles.

CSU's singles losses came with Davico dropping a tough 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 match at the second spot and
Luise Sachs falling 7-6, 7-6 in sixth singles.

Columbus State is at home on Wednesday to take on Anderson. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
