MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Columbus State University baseball team kept rolling on Wednesday with a 16-8 win at Montevallo. The nonconference game was played in Montevallo, Ala.

Columbus State (11-2) put double-digit runs on the board for the fifth time this season, getting 19 hits on the day.

"We're really swinging the bat well right now," head coach
Greg Appleton said. "The best part is it's not just one guy. We hit up and down the lineup tonight and made it really difficult on the opposing pitchers."
Â
The Cougars fell behind on Wednesday after a solo home run from the Falcons in the bottom of the first inning, but CSU would score the next nine runs.

Garrett Kirkwood tied the game at one with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third and
Mason McClellan gave the Cougars the lead on a two-run single.

Robert Brooks led off the fourth with a single and
Grant Berry hammered his third homer of the season to stretch the lead to 5-1.

Later in the inning,
Justin Evans doubled home
Turner Vincent and Kirkwood turned in his second sacrifice fly. McClellan followed with another RBI knock to give the Cougars an 8-1 advantage.

The Cougars kept pouring it on with a run-scoring double from
Drew Webb one inning later.
Â
Montevallo (10-5) finally stopped the scoring run by the Cougars with three runs of its own, but CSU went right back to work at the plate.

Evans and Kirkwood each drove in runs in the seventh and McClellan kept his strong day going with a three-run home run.
Austin Pharr and
Frank Wager each got in on the act as well, driving in a run in the eight and ninth, respectively.

All nine starters had a hit for the Cougars, with eight picking up at least two. McClellan was 4-for-6 at the plate with six RBIs. Evans, Vincent and Webb all scored three runs.

Tyler Cadenhead (2-0) went five innings in his first start of the season to earn the win. He allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits with six strikeouts.
Andrew Hayes worked a scoreless inning and
Sheridan Coy added a scoreless pair.

Columbus State will begin Peach Belt Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Augusta. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
