COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University women's basketball team made it three straight wins with an 84-74 victory over Augusta on Saturday. The Peach Belt Conference contest was played in the Lumpkin Center.

Machala Raymonville tallied a season-high 34 points in the victory, marking the ninth-highest single-game output in Lady Cougar history. The senior was 11-of-18 from the field, 6-for-9 from 3 and 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

Tatiana Wayne added 21 points on 12-of-12 shooting from the free throw line. Tatum Jarvis also pitched in 14.

"Things are coming along nicely offensively," head coach Anita Howard said. "I was disappointed in our defensive effort and I thought we got a little complacent with a big lead, but you're always happy when you get a win."

Raymonville drained a 3-pointer on the opening possession and Columbus State (12-7, 10-5 PBC) was off and running in an excellent first quarter. Trailing 11-7, Raymonville hit again from outside to spark an 11-0 Lady Cougar run.

Augusta (3-16, 1-14) stopped the bleeding with a bucket, but the Lady Cougars added four more points to stretch the margin to nine. CSU went on to take a 28-17 edge after the opening quarter.

The lead stretched as wide as 15 in the second, and Raymonville added another 3-pointer at the buzzer to send CSU to the locker room with a 43-29 halftime advantage.

Columbus State led by 18 late in the third quarter and appeared to have the game wrapped up. However, the Jaguars closed the quarter on a 13-3 run to trail by just eight heading to the fourth.

Augusta got the deficit down to just one on two occasions in the final quarter, but the Lady Cougars found a basket each time and was able to pull away down the stretch.

CSU shot 40.3 percent (25-for-62) as a team on Saturday and put together a 27-for-32 afternoon from the free throw line.

Columbus State will be at home again on Wednesday night to take on Georgia Southwestern. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
