COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University women's basketball team made it four in a row with a 71-51 win over Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday night. The Peach Belt Conference contest was played in the Lumpkin Center.

Tatiana Wayne led all scorers with 16 points on the night. Machala Raymonville and Tatum Jarvis each finished with 13, while Jasmine Herndon turned in 10.

"We've made a conscious decision to try and play four straight quarters and I thought the effort was there tonight," head coach Anita Howard said. "We've built up some momentum, but we know we have a good Lander team on Saturday that will be hungry after we beat them at our place."

Columbus State (13-7, 11-5 PBC) took control of the contest with a strong opening quarter. A 6-0 run midway through opened up a nine-point advantage for the Lady Cougars, and a bucket from Raymonville right before the buzzer gave CSU a 21-10 lead after 10 minutes.

It was another mid-quarter spurt in the second that opened the margin up even further. CSU put together nine straight points, the last five from Wayne, to take their largest lead of the first half at 35-14.

With the Lady Cougars up 18 heading to the third, Georgia Southwestern (7-13, 4-12) got as close as 13, but Columbus State pushed it right back out to 18 at the end of the quarter and cruised home through the fourth.

CSU shot 37.8 percent (28-for-74) on the night, grabbing 21 offensive rebounds and forcing 24 turnovers.

Columbus State will now start a three-game road swing beginning Saturday at Lander. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Greenwood, S.C.
