Cougars Look for Bounce Back Against Georgia Southwestern

COLUMBUS – Coming off a heartbreaking loss on Saturday, the Columbus State University men's basketball team will take on Georgia Southwestern Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Lumpkin Center.

Columbus State (6-12, 6-9 PBC) fell 82-80 in double overtime against Augusta on Saturday. JaCori Payne scored a season-high 33 points in the loss, including 14 in the two overtime periods.

Wednesday will be the 41st meeting between the two programs, with Columbus State holding a slim 21-19 edge in the all-time series.

The Cougars trailed by seven at the halftime and ultimately fell 83-72 at Georgia Southwestern last month in Americus. Rudy Winters led the Cougars with 21 points off the bench.

Georgia Southwestern (11-8, 7-8) has won two of its last three, including a 74-72 win over Young Harris on Sunday.
 
Former Cougar assistant Ben Hicks has GSW tied for sixth place in the Peach Belt Conference standings, one game ahead of CSU.
 
The Hurricanes currently rank fourth in the conference allowing just 74.4 points per game.
 
R.J. Sessions leads the way for GSW at 15.5 points per game and is sixth in the PBC in 3-pointers made.
 
CSU Notes
 
JaCori Payne's effort on Saturday was the fourth 30-point game of his career and his 23rd with at least 20 points.
 
The senior had just 15 points through the first 38 minutes of Saturday's contest before scoring 18 over the final 12 minutes.
 
Payne made 6-of-7 shots coming down the stretch, including his only two 3-pointers of the day.
 
Payne now has 1,209 points for his career and is just 22 shy of Mike Sanda for fifth-place on the all-time CSU scoring list.
