COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University softball team made it a perfect weekend with two more wins over USC Aiken on Sunday. The Peach Belt Conference doubleheader was played at Cougar Field.

Columbus State (19-14, 7-3 PBC) notched a 5-2 victory in the opener and completed the sweep with an 8-6 win in game two.

"This was a great weekend for us," head coach Brad Huskisson said. "It was great to get back home and I thought we swung the bats really well both days."

The Lady Cougars are at home again on Wednesday for a nonconference doubleheader against Middle Georgia. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Game One

CSU jumped on top of the Pacers with a run in each of the first two innings. Elizabeth Perdue singled home Kia Smith in the first and Kirstin Reynolds hit her sixth home run of the season to lead off the second.

USC Aiken tied the game up in the fourth, but Columbus State had the immediate answer.

Keeli Waugh picked up a RBI single with two outs in the bottom half of the inning to give the Lady Cougars the lead back.

In the fifth, Calli Star doubled the lead with a sacrifice fly and an error in the USCA outfield gave CSU another run in the sixth.

Darby Demarest (9-7) added another win to her tally, allowing two runs in 4.2 innings. Helen Snavely earned her second save of the season with 2.1 innings of shutout relief.

Perdue was 3-for-3 to lead the 10-hit Lady Cougar attack.

Game Two

It was an immediate lead for the Lady Cougars in game two as Waugh tucked a home run inside the foul pole in left to lead off the first.

The Pacers got the run right back in the second before the Lady Cougars surged in front.

Smith doubled home Waugh to give CSU the advantage back in the third and Perdue launched a three-run homer to stretch the margin out to four. The junior now has six long balls on the year.

Perdue struck again in the fifth, sending a double into the right-centerfield gap that plated two more. She now leads the Peach Belt Conference with 45 RBIs.

USC Aiken pushed five runs across over the final two innings, but Peyton Sorrells was able to finish off the complete game.

Sorrells (8-3) gave up the six runs on seven hits in the circle for the Lady Cougars.

Perdue was perfect again, going 2-for-2 with five RBIs. Smith was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two stolen bases.
