COLUMBUS – For the second straight year, the third-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team took home the Peach Belt Conference regular season title, defeating No. 24 Georgia College 9-0 on Thursday. The match was held at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.

Columbus State (19-1, 9-0 PBC) captured its third regular season crown to go along with titles in 2006 and 2017. The Lady Cougars finished off a perfect regular season in conference play for the third time as well, also done in the previous championship year.

The Lady Cougars jumped on the board early Thursday with three doubles wins.

Giorgia Vitale and
Marleen Tilgner blanked their opponents 8-0 at third doubles to start the day, and
Natalia Kattah Paz and
Candice Paya followed with an 8-5 win at first.

Beatriz Lopez and
Noa Davico had to battle at second doubles, but came away victorious 9-8.

Davico got a quick victory at the top spot in singles play, taking the first set 6-1 before her opponent had to retire. Vitale won 6-3, 6-4 at second and Paya took down third 6-3, 6-1.

Tilgner was victorious 6-3, 6-3 at fourth and Kattah Paz turned in a 6-3, 6-2 win at sixth.

Luise Sachs dropped the opening set 5-7 at fifth singles, but battled back to win the second 6-2 to force the tiebreak. Sachs then fell behind 4-0 in the tiebreak before storming back for a 10-8 victory.

Columbus State will wrap up the regular season on Saturday against No. 5 Hawaii Pacific. The match will be played at West Florida in Pensacola, Fla. with first serve scheduled for 10 a.m.
