YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The seventh-ranked Columbus State University baseball team clinched a series victory with an 11-4 win over Young Harris on Sunday. The Peach Belt Conference contest was played in Young Harris, Ga.

Columbus State (35-8, 17-6 PBC) has now won 10 of its 11 weekend series this season.

"It was good to see us bounce back today," head coach Greg Appleton said. "Payton (Phillips) was great out of the bullpen and we were able to win the series, which is the goal every weekend."

Young Harris (25-22, 15-15) jumped in front in the first inning on Sunday, getting a two-run home run in the bottom of the first.

The Cougars answered right back in the second with Chase Brown driving home a run to cut the deficit in half. Gunar Drinnen then delivered the big blow of the inning, with a bases-clearing double that gave the Cougars a 4-2 advantage.

In the fourth, Brown crushed a pitch over the wall in right field for a two-run shot that pushed the lead out to four.

The Mountain Lions got two runs back in the fifth to make it a 6-4 game, but Payton Phillips would slam the door shut the rest of the way.

Tyler Cadenhead got the start for the Cougars and allowed three runs in four-plus innings of work. Phillips (2-1) entered in the fifth and gave up a run, but put together four scoreless innings to close out the win. The right-hander struck out nine while giving up just two hits.

The Cougars added some separation in the later innings on Sunday. Austin Pharr launched his third home run in the last two games in the eighth inning. CSU then got run-scoring hits from Frank Wager, Grant Berry and Pharr in the ninth to tack on four more.

Wager and Pharr each had three hit days to lead the Cougars.

Columbus State will be back at home next weekend for a three-game set against Georgia College. First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.
