FLORENCE, S.C. – For the second consecutive year, the fourth-ranked and top-seeded Columbus State University women's tennis team captured the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship, defeating second-seeded and No. 25 Georgia College 5-1 on Sunday. The conference tournament was played at Francis Marion.

Columbus State (22-2) has now won 29 straight matches over conference opponents while sweeping the PBC regular season and tournament titles each of the last two seasons.

The Lady Cougars opened the day with a pair of doubles wins to pick of two of the five points needed for the title.
Marleen Tilgner and
Giorgia Vitale put the first point on the board with an 8-3 win at third doubles.
Candice Paya and
Natalia Kattah Paz then followed with a victory of their own by the same score in the top position.

Georgia College (15-7) grabbed its only victory of the day at second doubles, where
Beatriz Lopez and
Noa Davico were bested in a tiebreak 9-8 (8-6).

Paya was the first in the win column in singles play, as the PBC Freshman of the Year improved to 18-1 on the season with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at fourth singles. Vitale finished off her opponent 6-2, 6-0 at third singles to bring the Lady Cougars within a point of the title.

Luise Sachs then delivered championship point with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at sixth singles.

Columbus State gets the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Southeast Regional, which will be played Saturday and Sunday. The NCAA Tournament field will be revealed during the selection show on Tuesday evening.
