COLUMBUS – In the final home game of the regular season, the fifth-ranked Columbus State University baseball team took a 10-6 loss against No. 12 Georgia College on Sunday. The Peach Belt Conference game was played at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.

"We aren't playing as well as we have been for much of the season," head coach
Greg Appleton said. "We have some things that we need to clean up, but we believe we can get some things fixed and still achieve our goals."

Sunday started with a bang for the Cougars, who plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Grant Berry took a bases loaded walk to force home the first run, and some heads up baserunning from
Mason McClellan got a second run home on the wild pitch for ball four.

Austin Pharr then crushed a three-run home run to stretch the margin the five, his fifth home run in his last five games.

Tyler Cadenhead was rolling on the mound early for the Cougars, putting up three quick zeros before running into trouble in the fourth. Georgia College (36-10, 26-4) put up three in the fourth and added another in the fifth sandwiched around a CSU run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

GC took the lead for good in the sixth, getting a grand slam as part of a five-run frame that put the Bobcats on top 9-6. They added another run an inning later to provide more cushion.

Cadenhead gave up five runs, three earned, in five-plus innings on Sunday.
Payton Phillips (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing four runs in just one inning of work.
Sheridan Coy surrendered just an unearned run over the final three innings.

Pharr and
Gunar Drinnen each had two hits in the game to lead the Cougars.

Columbus State will wrap up the regular season next weekend at North Georgia. First pitch Friday night is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Dahlonega.
