DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The ninth-ranked Columbus State University baseball team wrapped up the regular season on Sunday, falling 4-3 against North Georgia. The Peach Belt Conference game was played in Dahlonega.

Columbus State closes out the regular season at 38-11 overall and 20-9 in conference play. The Cougars finished in third place in the PBC standings and will now prep for the conference tournament, set to begin on Friday in St. Augustine, Fla.

It was North Georgia (30-20, 17-13) that scored first on Sunday, getting a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first inning. The Nighthawks then put another run on the board in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.

The Cougars answered back though, taking the lead in the fifth. Robert Brooks and Grant Berry singled to start the frame, and Frank Wager plated the first run with a sacrifice fly.

Two batters later, Turner Vincent gave the Cougars the lead with a two-run home run. The long ball was just the third of the season for the senior, and first since February 24.

Tyler Cadenhead finished off his start with a scoreless fifth and turned the game over to the bullpen. T.J. Clark worked a scoreless sixth, but left with the bases loaded and only one out in the seventh.

Jalen Latta (2-1) stepped into the pressure situation and delivered, getting a strikeout and a groundout to leave the bases loaded and keep the one-run lead for the Cougars. However, CSU was undone in the eighth by a triple, sacrifice fly and two-out solo home run.

Cadenhead took a no-decision, allowing two runs in five innings with six strikeouts.
