SURPRISE, Ariz. – The second-ranked Columbus State Men's Tennis team made quick work of No. 10 Southwest Baptist, winning 5-0 in Wednesday's NCAA Round of 16 match.

Columbus State (25-3) moves into the national quarterfinal round for the second straight season and the fourth time in program history. The Cougars will now take on Midwestern State on Thursday at noon.

"The guys came out and played really well today," head coach
Evan Isaacs said. "Southwest Baptist was a great team, but we got off to a strong start in doubles and took care of business quickly in singles."

The Cougars got rolling early on Wednesday, winning all three doubles matches. Zach Whanga and
Alvaro Regalado took down first doubles 8-3 to get the day started.
KP Pannu and
Matei Avram made it 2-0 with an 8-5 win at second, and
Jorge Vargas and
Arnold Kokulewski completed the sweep with an 8-5 win of their own at third.

Needing just two victories to advance, CSU turned in straight set wins at third and sixth singles. Regalado won 6-3, 6-1 at third, with Vargas winning by the same tally to send the Cougars into the quarterfinal round.

Columbus State was cruising through singles play, up a set in three of the four unfinished matches.
