COLUMBUS – The fourth-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team is back at home on Saturday to take on Lander. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.
Saturday is Military Appreciation Day, with all military personnel receiving free admission.
Columbus State (4-0-1, 1-0-0 PBC) is coming off a thrilling 4-3 victory at Flagler on Wednesday. The Lady Cougars allowed a pair of goals in the opening seven minutes of the match and trailed 3-1 at halftime. CSU picked up goals from
Riley Clark and
Flo Spano to tie the match, and
Olivia Jarrell netted the game-winner in the 81
st minute.
Clark and Jarrell each have four goals on the season to lead the way for the Lady Cougars.
The victory marked the first time the Lady Cougars had rallied back after giving up the first two goals of a match since falling behind 2-0 in an eventual 6-2 victory over Lander in the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
Lander (5-0-1, 0-0-1) won its first five matches of the season before a 1-1 draw against Georgia College last Friday. The Bearcats are averaging just 2.0 goals per match, but have allowed only three goals this season.
Sophomore Juliette Vidal leads the way for Lander with four goals on the season, which is tied for second in the PBC.
Saturday will be the 18
th all-time meeting between the two programs. The Lady Cougars hold a 14-1-2 edge in the series, including seven consecutive victories. In the previous 17 meetings, CSU has outscored Lander 51-8 with 12 shutouts.
