COLUMBUS – The fourth-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team stayed unbeaten on the season with a 3-1 victory over Lander on Saturday. The Peach Belt Conference contest was played at the Walden Soccer Complex.

Columbus State (5-0-1, 2-0-0 PBC) put home three goals in the opening 35 minutes of the match and made them stand up for a second consecutive conference win.

"I'm proud of the way we competed today," head coach Jay Entlich said. "We didn't get off a ton of shots, but we were very efficient with our finishing and were able to be a good Lander team."

The scoring started quickly on both sides with the Lady Cougars striking first.

In the 12th minute, Maddy Peterson played a ball out wide for Olivia Jarrell, who worked her way to the top corner of the box. The senior then unleashed a bullet into the right side of the net for her fifth goal of the season to open up the scoring.

Lander (5-1-1, 0-1-1) answered back quickly though, heading home a deflected ball to level the score just five minutes later.

The Lady Cougars grabbed the lead back in the 29th minute with Peterson and Jarrell combining again. However, the combination was flipped with Jarrell finding Peterson in the box and the sophomore turning and rifling a shot into the top left corner.

Five minutes later, Columbus State stretched the margin on a perfect free kick. Tehgan Anguilm sent a free kick into the box and Brooke Nail leapt high to get a head on it and put it over the keeper and into the net. The goal was the first of the season for the senior.

The match went to the half at 3-1 and stayed that way for the duration of the contest.

Columbus State will be on the road on Wednesday, continuing its conference slate at Young Harris. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
