COLUMBUS – The third-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team is back at the Walden Soccer Complex on Saturday for a Peach Belt Conference match against Clayton State. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Columbus State (6-0-1, 3-0-0 PBC) enters the day on a three-match winning streak after a 3-0 triumph at Young Harris on Wednesday. The match was scoreless after 45 minutes, but the Lady Cougars notched three goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half for the victory.
CSU is one of three teams tied atop the conference standings with nine points, joining North Georgia and Flagler. The Lady Cougars are the only PBC team without a loss on the season.
Columbus State will aim to continue its string of success against conference foes and at the Walden Soccer Complex. The Lady Cougars are 58-4-1 versus PBC competition since the start of 2014, while going 40-1-1 at home during that span.
Saturday's match will be the 18
th all-time meeting between the two programs, with the Lady Cougars holding a 14-3-0 mark. CSU has defeated the Lakers in five consecutive matches and 13 of the last 14. Columbus State picked up a 4-1 win at Clayton State last October.
Clayton State (3-2-2, 1-2-0) has lost its last two matches after starting the season unbeaten through five contests. The Lakers suffered their first loss 5-0 against Flagler last Saturday and followed it up with a 2-1 overtime loss to Lander on Wednesday. Columbus State has already defeated both Flagler and Lander this season.
Junior Manoly Baquerizo leads the Lakers into action on Saturday with three goals on the season. Clayton State is averaging just 1.86 goals per match.
