DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The Columbus State University men's basketball team grabbed a huge road win up in Dahlonega Wednesday night taking down North Georgia 76-67.

Landrius Horton had a monster performance putting up 19 points to go along with a season high 20 rebounds, giving him his fifth double-double of the season. Bryant Givens led all scorers with 21 points and six assists while Jalen Thomas chipped in 14 off of three 3-pointers.

"I was extremely proud of the effort from our guys especially in a tough environment on the road," head coach Robert Moore said. "We rebounded hard, Horton was unstoppable down low and we got our confidence back after a couple of tough losses."

The lead went back and forth in the first half as the two teams continued to trade baskets. Thomas hit two of his threes in the first ten minutes of the game while Givens and Horton continued to exert themselves in the lane. The Cougars finished +14 on points scored in the paint overall as they moved the ball at a rapid pace finding open players down low.

After the halftime break it was the first six minutes of the second half where CSU opened up their lead. Givens started things off with a steal and flush and followed it up with his second 3-pointer of the night. Layups by Horton and DeMarcus McVay saw the Cougars extend the lead to 14 entering the first media timeout of the half.

The Nighthawks never got closer than seven points the rest of the night as Columbus State continued to respond with their dominating presence on defense. UNG shot just 38.3% from the field overall with the Cougars forcing them into 17 total turnovers.

The Cougars shot 45.5 percent (30-for-66) from the field and went 8-of-21 from the 3-point line.

Columbus State heads back home on January 12 to take on Augusta. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
