COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University women's soccer team scored four goals in the first 30 minutes of play to defeat Young Harris 4-0 on Wednesday. The Peach Belt Conference match took place at the Walden Soccer Complex.
"This was a good result for us, especially with some of our starters being out," stated head coach
Jay Entlich. "We needed people to step up and I liked how we responded today."
"We would like to thank everyone for coming out in their pink to support our Kicks for the Cure initiative. Breast Cancer is an awful disease and we need to do our job in helping to end it."
Four different Lady Cougars found the back of the net in the contest. Senior
Riley Clark started the scoring in the third minute after corralling a pass from
Kimmy May. Just three minutes later,
Parker Morgan got in on the scoring action as she netted her second goal of the year.Â
Columbus State (5-6, 1-4 PBC) kept the pressure on the Mountain Lions and found its third goal in the 22
nd minute. Freshman
Bre Harvey was able to beat the YHC goalkeeper after passes from Morgan and
Flo Spano.
Capping off the scoring was sophomore
Maddie DeFranco in the 30
th minute. Â Freshman
Brooke Ouimette sent a through ball to DeFranco who easily beat  Pien Van Kampen in the one-vs.-one opportunity.Â
Overall, Columbus State outshot Young Harris 21-4, including a 9-1 margin on shots on goal. CSU collected 11 corner kicks in the match.
Three different goalkeepers played in net for the Lady Cougars with
Bria Riancho playing the first half to collect the victory.
Sara Halilhodzic played nearly 31 minutes while freshman
Lizzie Hedrick saw her first action since the opening weekend.
Columbus State will hit the road once again for a Saturday match against Clayton State. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Laker Field in Morrow, Ga.
