MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Columbus State University softball team took both games in their second day of the Florida Tech Tournament Saturday. The tournament is being played at the USSSA Space Coast Complex.

CSU picked up the dominating 13-3 win in the opening game against Converse before following it up with a lengthy 13-inning thriller with Lynn that resulted in a 3-2 walk-off victory.

The Lady Cougars will wrap up tournament play on Sunday with one game against Barry scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.

Game One

Columbus State got started off on the right foot in the opening game putting up a four-spot in the first inning. Elizabeth Perdue hit the two-RBI triple with starting pitcher Harley Dawson knocking her home off a single to give CSU the early 4-0 lead.

The big hits would continue to come in bunches for the Lady Cougars as Madeline Parker and Paris Poston each collected extra-base hits in the top of the third to push the lead to 6-0. Hannah Rose Corbin would follow in the fourth inning with the fourth triple of the afternoon, eventually coming home to go in front 7-0.

Corbin and Morgan Elston then combined to finish Converse off in the final two innings. Both had RBI singles in the sixth to extend the advantage to 9-3, and they teamed up yet again one inning later for two more RBI's to make it a 12-3 score. Elyse Ambrose would finish the scoring with an RBI-double to cap off the 13-3 win.

Harley Dawson was strong inside the circle for the Lady Cougars going 4.0 innings while giving up no runs and striking out seven.

Corbin went 3-for-4 at the plate scoring four runs and picking up two RBI's. Elston followed suite going 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI's.

Game Two

A pitchers duel throughout, Darby Demarest was phenomenal in the extra inning affair. The senior started the game by striking out the side in each of the first three innings, giving her nine strikeouts at the end of the third.

The two starting pitchers continued to battle eventually seeing the score end at 0-0 after the regulated seven innings of play. Both pitchers stayed out into extras as Demarest picked up four more strikeouts in the 8th and 9th innings to keep CSU in it.

Lynn finally broke the scoreless game in the 11th, on a groundout RBI forcing CSU to have to respond in the bottom frame. Paris Poston was placed on second base via the tiebreaker rules, and was moved over to third on a sac-bunt. After a strikeout it was Elston who reached on a throwing error, allowing Poston to come home for the tie.

In the 12th Lynn struck again as Demarest gave up an RBI-single before pulled from the game for Peyton Sorrells. But once again, CSU responded with Elizabeth Perdue hitting the clutch RBI-triple to send the game to the 13th inning.

After Sorrells retired the side without any damage, Madeline Parker advanced to third on a wild pitch setting the stage for pinch-hitter JoJo Beyer. On a 1-0 pitch Beyer singled to left center bringing Parker home for the winning run and the walk-off victory.

Demarest went 11.1 innings while giving up just five hits, two runs (0 earned) and racking up 18 strikeouts. The senior now sits at 72 total strikeouts this season.
