AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Columbus State University men's basketball team dropped a road contest against Augusta as the Jaguars came away with the 87-68 win Saturday.
Bryant Givens led all scorers in the game putting up 21 points after going 9-for-11 from the floor while also hitting three from behind the arc. Jalen Thomas and Landrius Horton each put up 12 points in the loss. Horton's streak of four straight double-doubles came to an end as he battled foul trouble all afternoon and finished with eight rebounds.
"Losing a body in Horton early in the first half really put us in a hole," said head coach Robert Moore. "We're already thin on depth and Augusta did a good job taking advantage to give themselves more breathing room heading into halftime."
The Cougars grabbed the early 8-5 lead thanks to the two Horton's as Chris Horton hit a three followed by a three-point play from Landrius Horton.
But the fouls would then start to pile up for CSU in the first half and Landrius Horton had to head to the bench after picking up his third foul with 5:16 remaining. The Jaguars proceeded to close the half on a 14-5 run to go into the halftime break up 17.
After the opening minute of the second half, the Cougars never got closer than 19 points as the Jaguars continued to hold strong. They finished the night shooting 52.5 percent (31-for-59) from the field, the third highest mark Columbus State has allowed this season.
As a team, CSU shot 46.3 percent (25-for-54) from the floor and 7-of-24 (29.2 percent) from the three-point line.
Columbus State will be back in action Wednesday, Feb. 13 to take on Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Ga. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
