COLUMBUS - The 15th-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team grabbed their second win in as many days taking down 38th-ranked USC Aiken 6-1 on Sunday. The Peach Belt Conference match took place at the Walden Tennis Center.
Columbus State (11-3, 3-0 PBC) had a strong showing in doubles as all three courts brought home wins for the Lady Cougars.
Beatriz Lopez and Clara Audap teamed up in first doubles taking down their counterpart 6-4 while it was 28th-ranked Noa Davico and Luise Sachs who came away victorious 6-3. In third doubles Candice Paya and Natalia Kattah Paz beat Edith Rueda and Karin Blas 6-1 as CSU easily took the doubles point.
In singles play five of the courts went the way of Columbus State, all five of them in straight sets as well.
40th-ranked Marleen Tilgner picked up the 6-0, 6-1 dominating win at second singles while 61st-ranked Candice Paya beat one of her doubles opponents Rueda 6-0, 6-1 at third singles.
At fourth singles it was 53rd-ranked Sachs who put her counterpart at bay getting the 6-1, 6-1 effort to lock down another point.
Paz and Audap got the selections at fifth and sixth singles and both came away with straight set triumphs. Paz grabbed a 6-0, 6-3 score to give CSU a point while Audap won 6-3, 6-1 as the Lady Cougars ran away with the match.
The lone loss at singles was at the top spot with 50th-ranked Lopez falling in a tightly contested three set tiebreaker, 6-7, 7-6, 10-7.
Winners of five in a row, Columbus State will play Georgia Gwinnett on Wednesday, March 27. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Walden Tennis Center.
