MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The second-ranked Columbus State University men's team grabbed another conference win, sweeping their way past Georgia College 7-0. The Peach Belt Conference match took place at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.Â
Columbus State (15-2, 5-0 PBC) fell victim at first doubles when the top-ranked doubles team in the nation Alvaro Regalado and Zach Whaanga dropped a 3-6 decision. But the other two courts grabbed key wins to give CSU the doubles point. Matei Avram and Arnold Kokulewski teamed up at second doubles to win a tight 7-5 match while KP Pannu and Tommaso Schold come out on top 6-2.Â
It was a showdown of two of the best singles players in the nation at the top spot with number one Pannu taking on sixth-ranked Robin Moller. The senior from New Zealand triumphed over Moller with a straight set 6-4, 6-4 victory.Â
It was straight set wins to grab points at third through sixth singles for Columbus State in the dominating match on Sunday. Fabien Asdrubal took his match 6-4, 6-2 at third while 18th-ranked Regalado picked up a point winning 6-4, 6-3 at fourth.Â
On the last two courts 74th-ranked Kokulewski took down his counterpart 6-0, 6-4 while Schold cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win.Â
It was a battle at second singles with 37th-ranked Whaanga being taken to three sets. But he grinded out a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 outcome to give the Cougars another point in helping them to the sweep.Â
Columbus State will play a non-conference match against Shorter University Thursday, April 4 at 2:00 p.m. The match is set to be played at the Walden Tennis Center.
