MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The ninth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team grabbed their second straight 7-0 sweep, this time breaking out the brooms against Georgia College. The Peach Belt Conference match took place at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.Â
Second and third doubles were the two courts that finished first, both in favor of CSU to give them the point needed before singles play. Natalia Kattah Paz and Candice Paya cruised to a 6-1 win at second doubles while Noa Davico and Clara Audap picked up a 6-2 victory. The final doubles court with Beatriz Lopez and Marleen Tilgner went unfinished with the point already secured.Â
Columbus State (14-3, 5-0 PBC) had only one court in singles play go to three sets, with the other five all going the way of the Lady Cougars in straight sets.Â
33rd-ranked Tilgner battled her way past 58th-ranked Emilia Richter 6-4, 6-1 at first singles court. Right next to her it was 67th-ranked Beatriz Lopez that dominated her way past her doubles counterpart 6-2, 6-2.Â
At third singles it was Paya picking up another point for CSU winning 6-0, 6-3 while Davico triumphed 6-4, 6-3 at fifth singles. In the final court it was Paz who grinded out a 6-3, 6-3 straight set victory.Â
The lone court to go the distance was at fourth singles as Luise Sachs pulled the comeback for another point. After dropping the first set 1-6, Sachs rebounded to crush her opponent shutting her out the rest of the way taking both sets two and three by a 6-0 score.
Columbus State will play a non-conference match against Shorter University Thursday, April 4 at 2:00 p.m. The match is set to be played at the Walden Tennis Center.
