COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team lost the final game of the series 2-1 against Young Harris on Saturday. The Peach Belt Conference game took place at Burger King Stadium.

"Kolton looked great out there, it was a big lift for us to see him throw like we're accustomed to," said head coach Greg Appleton. "We only gave up one big hit, but ultimately that's the game of baseball and sometimes it doesn't bounce your way."

Kolton Ingram returned to the mound for CSU and threw a gem coming off his injury for the Cougars. The senior finished the game giving up just one hit and one earned run while striking out eight batters.

Ingram worked extremely fast on the mound, keeping the Mountain Lions on their heels the entire game. He struck out the first two batters he faced and grabbed two more in the second inning.

That's when the Cougar offense got on the board as Garrett Kirkwood hit an RBI-single to plate Conner Pett.

Ingram went three up, three down in two consecutive innings and retired 13 straight batters before giving up a walk in the sixth. He would enter the seventh inning and after issuing a one-out walk on his 85th pitch, the senior exited off the mound for the afternoon.

Sheridan Coy came in for relief and Young Harris proceeded to hit a two-run home run off of him giving the Mountain Lions their only runs of the game.

CSU had a chance to tie in the bottom frame as Pett led the inning off with a single into left field. After moving over to second on a balk, and groundout placed him just 90 feet away from making it a 2-2 game. But two consecutive groundouts to second base would end the threat for Columbus State.

The Cougars would grab two-out singles in both the eighth and ninth but were unable to bring them home giving YHC their only win in the series.

Both Drew Webb and Pett picked up two hits apiece as the Cougars outhit the Mountain Lions 9-3.

Coy (7-1) was tagged with the loss only giving up two hits in 2.2 innings pitched.

Columbus State has two conference weekend series left, as they'll travel to Georgia College to take on the Bobcats next Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
