COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action running in the UNG Cross Country Invitational at the University of North Georgia Cross Country Course on Saturday. The Cougars will run the 8K course at 9:30 a.m. while the Lady Cougars will follow at 10:30 a.m for the 5K course.
After a third place finish last weekend at Coach Gary Wilson Invitational, the Lady Cougars will return to the course. Senior Alli Hay secured a second place finish with a 5K time of 19:46.87 for her third top-three finish over the past two years. Emily Marin (21:56.69) and Tanzanie Brown (21:57.43) also had top-20 performances.
The Cougars will be looking to improve upon a fifth place finish in the season opening meet last weekend. freshman Ethan Shephard led the pack running a 28:50.60 8K, placing him 18th.
"It was an amazing experience last weekend to return to the course," commented acting head coach David Marley. "It's going to be a short turnaround for everyone, but I know our student-athletes will be up for the challenge. We ran a very challenging course in Carrollton last time out, so I feel like we are well prepared."
There are 11 participating schools in the meet (seven men's teams and 11 women's teams) including Anderson, Brenau (women), Columbus State, Lander, Life (women), North Georgia (women), Piedmont, Reinhardt (women), Shorter, West Georgia and Young Harris.
In addition to live stats, the meet will be broadcasted by the Nighthawk Sports Network.
