COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University softball program will host the 2020 Cougar Classic this weekend at Cougar Field. The 12-game, three-day event will begin Friday at 2 p.m.
Joining CSU in the field will be Albany State, Coker, Georgia Southwestern, Union, and Queens. Three games will be played on Friday followed by five on Saturday. On Sunday, the tournament will conclude with four matchups. Admission is $5 dollars each day.
The Cougars (3-5) will play four games over the weekend beginning with a tilt against ASU on Friday at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, CSU will take on Union in the nightcap (7 p.m.) before closing out play with games against Queens (Sunday, 1:30 p.m.) and Coker (Sunday, 3:45 p.m.)
Columbus State picked up three wins last weekend after a complete schedule change. Rain forced the Cougars back to Columbus for four games in the CSU Classic. In its last action on Feb. 9, Columbus State swept games against Union (12-1) and Shorter (5-2).
Morgan Elston and
Paige Vincent both swung hot bats last weekend. Elston was 4-for-9 with three runs scored and hit a two-run home run against Union on Feb. 8. The sophomore currently ranks inside the top-10 in the Peach Belt Conference in runs (six), hits (10), and doubles (2). Vincent had a hit in all four games, including two doubles, going 6-for-10 at the plate for the Cougars. She has hit safely in all six games that she has started this season.Â

Harley Dawson recorded two wins, including tossing a two-hitter against Union on Feb. 9.
Hannah Rose Corbin made her season debut and set a career-high in strikeouts with 10 against Shorter in the final game of the weekend.
