COLUMBUS - The third-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team won its third straight decision on Saturday defeating Anderson 7-0. The non-conference match took place at the John W. Walden Tennis Complex in Columbus.
Two of the three doubles matches were over quickly with the Lady Cougars easily earning the doubles point.
Candice Paya and
Beatriz Lopez (6-2) took first doubles while
Luise Sachs and
Amanda Citre (6-1) won at the third spot.Â
In a tight match at second doubles, the freshman duo of
Agostina Bigotti and
Kristina Baran outlasted their opponents for a 7-5 victory.
CSU (3-1) won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. First singles went to a deceive third-set tiebreak with No. 10 Sachs walking away with a 6-1, 1-6, 10-7 win over Anna Greer.
At second singles, No. 21 Paya continued her impressive start to the season with a 6-2, 6-0 win while No. 17 Lopez was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at the third spot.
Baran (6-0, 6-3), Citre (6-1, 6-2), and Bigotti (6-1, 6-1) finished off the Lady Cougar sweep.
Columbus State will host two matches next week beginning with a date against No. 25 West Alabama on Wednesday, Feb. 19. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. at the Walden Tennis Center.
