Cougars Fall in Double-Overtime in Regular Season Finale

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - In a back-and-forth affair, the Columbus State University men's basketball fell victim to a 95-93 double-overtime loss on Saturday afternoon. The Peach Belt Conference game took place in the YHC Basketball Arena in Young Harris, Ga.

A free throw from Landruis Horton with 1:05 remaining gave the Cougars a 70-66 advantage. A YHC steal and three-pointer made it a one-point game before two more free throws from Bryant Givens pushed the lead back up to three with :14 seconds left on the clock.

But for the second time this season the Cougars saw a late-foul haunt them as Ryle Owens was fouled shooting a three-pointer with one-second left. Owens hit all three from the line to force overtime.

In the first overtime period Columbus State found themselves trailing by five points 80-75 with 1:49 before they pulled a late comeback. L. Horton connected on a three-point play and the defense got the stops needed giving them the ball back with :21 seconds left trailing by two. L. Horton would miss a jumper but Anthony Moore crashed the glass hard to secure a rebound and put in a layup to send the game to double overtime.

The Mountain Lions would jump in front once again in double-overtime before hanging out in the final minute for the two-point win.

"This was a tough loss but I was so proud of the way we battled on the road," stated head coach Robert Moore. "We had guys playing well over 40 minutes and they gave it their all. Hopefully this will push us to be even better as we enter the conference tournament next week."

L. Horton led all CSU scorers with 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double this season. Moore was right behind him with 24 points and 14 rebounds, his second double-double in his junior season. Givens also poured in 20 points to go along with seven rebounds ands assists.

As a team, Columbus State shot 37.3 percent (31-83) from the field and 26.5 percent (9-34) from behind the arc. The Cougars got to the line 30 times while hitting on 22 of them.
