COLUMBUS - In an early-season Peach Belt Conference match, the third-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team swept Georgia Southwestern 7-0 Saturday afternoon. The match was played at the John W. Walden Tennis Complex in Columbus.
After a two-hour rain delay, the Lady Cougars (1-1, 1-0 PBC) were impressive.
Kristina Baran and
Neila Trklja swept first doubles while
Candice Paya and
Beatriz Lopez did the same at the second spot.
Luise Sachs and
Amanda Citre were also winners at third doubles.
In singles action, all six matches were decided in two sets. In fact, all 12 sets were decided in less than 10 games. No. 17 Lopez (third), Trklja (fourth), Citre (fifth), and Bigotti (sixth) all won by 6-1, 6-1 margins.
At the second position, No. 21 Paya continued her impressive start to the spring season with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory. No. 10 Sachs notched a 6-2, 6-3 in CSU's first home match of the season.
Columbus State will be right back on the court on Sunday taking on Division I Alabama State. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. eastern time in Montgomery, Ala.Â
