Greenwood, S.C. - On the eve of the 2020 Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals, two Columbus State University women's basketball players earned spots on the All-Peach Belt Conference teams on Friday night. The awards were handed out at the PBC Basketball Championship Banquet at the Grier Student Center on the campus of Lander University, the site of the 2020 PBC Tournament finals.
LeeAysia Williamson was voted to the second team while Aujana Dawkins was on the third-team. It's the second time Williamson has earned All-PBC honors as she was a third-team selection last season. Columbus State has now had at least two All-PBC players in every season since 2012-13.
One of the best scorers in the league, Williamson will enter the PBC semifinals fourth in the conference in scoring averaging 16.3 points per game. In 24 games this season, the junior has made 52 3-pointers while shooting 34.4 percent from beyond the arc. She got hot on multiple occasions this year scoring over 20 points in 10 different games while also making five or more from deep in three different games.
The Greensboro, N.C. native has quick hands ranking fifth in the PBC with 61 steals. She also added 3.0 rebounds per game.
In her Columbus State career, Williamson has scored 770 points, an average of 14.5 per game, with over 100 steals and assists. She needs three 3-pointers to reach 100 as a Lady Cougar.
Meanwhile, Dawkins has made an instant impact for first-year head coach Matt Houser. A double-double machine, the senior finished the regular season by averaging 10.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Dawkins had nine double-doubles to help finish as the league's third-best rebounder. She grabbed 19 rebounds twice in a game which is the third-best performance by any PBC player this season.
Dawkins is a very efficient shooter going 108-for-214 from the field to post a 50.5 shooting percentage. She is one of only six players in the league to shoot over 50 percent from the floor during the regular season.
Like Williamson, Dawkins is very active as a defending ranking 10th with 53 steals. She also rejected 13 shots.
The fourth-seeded Lady Cougars will look to reach the PBC Tournament title game for the sixth time in seven seasons as they take on No. 23 and top-seeded Lander in the semifinals on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. inside Finnis Horne Arena. Fans can listen to the game live on CougarSportsTV with Scott Miller bringing all the action from courtside.
