• Playing its first game in nearly 10 months, Columbus State had a difficult draw to begin the 2020-21 season playing 22nd-ranked UNC Pembroke last Saturday. The Cougars fell in North Carolina to the Braves 91-72.
• CSU lead 11-10 in the early going before a 13-2 run by UNCP allowed the hosts to pull away. By the half, the Braves were up 39-22.
• Freshman Christian Chambers was a bright spot for head coach Robert Moore and the Cougars. In his first collegiate game, Chambers scored 19 points, hitting five 3-pointers, in his debut.
• Seniors Anthony Moore (12 pts.) and Hunter Preston (11 pts.) both scored in double figures. Moore was one rebound shy of a double-double.
• CSU's perimeter defense was excellent in Saturday's season-opener holding the UNC Pembroke to a 0-10 mark from beyond the arch. However, the Braves outscored the Cougars 52-28 in the paint.
