HARROGATE, Tenn. - Powered by two goals from freshman
Lauren Barnes, the No. 2 Columbus State University women's soccer team shut out Lincoln Memorial University 3-0 on Wednesday in a non-conference match.
The Cougars (10-0-1) snapped LMU's home-unbeaten streak at eight matches after outshooting the Railsplliters 29-8.
"I'm really pleased with the performance today against a well-coached team," stated head coach
Jay Entlich. "There are a few things we need to sure up in training the next few days before we continue this critical stretch in our schedule."
Columbus State got on the board in the 30th minute when
Carley Canzoneri found her third goal of the season after Lincoln Memorial (6-2-1) failed to clear a corner kick.
After the Cougars came out firing in the second half, Barnes put the guests up two following a pass from
Maddie DeFranco.
Barnes completed her first multi-goal match of her career with just 19 seconds left in the match.
Sara Halilhodzic and
Lizzie Hedrick teamed up for their seventh combined shutout. Halilhodzic made two saves, while Hedrick kept one out.

It's the rematch of the Spring 2021 Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship match as the Cougars head to St. Augustine, Fla. for a match with No. 17 Flagler College on Sunday, October 10. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
