Cougar Basketball Ready for Home Opener Against Morehouse

It will be the first meeting between Columbus State and Morehouse since Nov. 25, 2006.

COLUMBUS - After a successful season-opening weekend, the Columbus State University men's basketball team will take the court at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center on Monday to take on Morehouse College at 7:30 p.m.

Columbus State fans can listen to the game live on 88.5 WCUG Cougar Radio with Hall of Fame broadcaster Scott Miller on the call.

TICKET REMINDER

All 2021-22 Columbus State basketball tickets must be purchased online. Fans have two different ticketing options: a single-game ticket for $10 or a season ticket package, which includes exclusive perks for holders. All CSU students, faculty and staff (with a valid ID) receive free admission.

Morehouse Notes
• 
The Maroon Tigers will be playing its first regular-season game since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. MC took the shortened 20-21 season off 
• In 2019-20, Morehouse posted a 16-14 record, averaging just under 70 points per game
• Morehouse was selected to finish in fourth in the SIAC east division. Xavier Brewer, who averaged 8.7 ppg and 4.8 reb/g, was named to the preseason All-SIAC team
• In the preseason, Morehouse took on Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia and Harvard University
• Douglas Whittler, who graduated from Morehouse in 2011, is in his first season as interim coach for the Maroon Tigers. Whittler will be taking over for legendary Grady Brewer, who lead MC to a 315-241 record over 20 seasons

Cougar Notes
• Columbus State was impressive in the 45 Second Classic, defeating Barton College (85-76) and Mount Olive (88-67).
• Langston Gaither was one of just two players in the PBC over the opening weekend to post a 30-point game. The transfer scored 30 against UMO on Saturday and sits third in the conference averaging 25 ppg 
• CSU shot above 50% in both games last weekend
• It's the first time CSU has started 2-0 since the 2016-17 season. That year, the Cougars won their first six games
• The Cougar defense swatted 15 shots over the two games, including having nine in the win over Mount Olive. CSU is the only PBC team to have 10 or more blocks so far this year
• It will be the first meeting between Columbus State and Morehouse since Nov. 25, 2006. The two teams met regularly in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
