No. 7 Cougars Drop PBC Championship Match to No. 18 Flagler

FC scored four goals in the second half to grab the victory.

EVANS, Ga. - Third-seeded and No. 18 Flagler College scored four second-half goals to post a 5-3 victory over the top-seeded and No. 7 Columbus State University women's soccer team in the 2021 Peach Belt Conference Championship match in Evans, Ga. at Blanchard Woods Park.

With CSU (18-2-1) up 2-1 at halftime, Flagler stormed back, running off four straight goals to claim its third consecutive conference tournament title.

"Flagler was the better team today for sure, and congratulations to them for a great win," commented head coach Jay Entlich. "They took it to us in the second half, and we just couldn't find a response in time.

"We can't dwell on this because we have the NCAAs next weekend, and we will have to be ready for another tough opponent."

Flagler (15-2-1) got on the board first in the sixth minute off a corner before the Cougars roared back with a pair of goals. In the 12th minute, Maddy Peterson snuck one inside the left post to tie the match off a pass from Lauren Barnes

Vanessa Aviles gave Columbus State the lead in the 23rd after Emma Beddow set up the all-conference midfielder.

The second half was a different story though, as the Saints found the equalizer in the 52nd minute off another corner piece. Nearly a minute later, FC took the 3-2 lead before adding two more in the 67th and 82nd minutes.

Beddow cut the margin to two with her 11th goal of the year, just seconds following Flagler's goal in the 82nd.

Flagler outshot the Cougars 12-9, including a 7-3 margin in the second half.

Barnes, Peterson and Brooke Ouimette were all named to the All-Tournament team for Columbus State.
