Women's Basketball Comes From Behind to Take Down UAH

Kristyn Goshay scored a game-high 15 points for the Lady Cougars.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University women's basketball team overcame a second-half, double-digit deficit to defeat the University of Alabama at Huntsville 63-55 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game inside the Lumpkin Center.

UAH (0-4) was cruising in the third when Jirah Rogers hit a layup to take a game-high 11 point lead, 45-34, with 3:41 left in the quarter. However, from there, Columbus State seized control of the game by going on a 24-2 run over the next seven-and-a-half minutes to flip the 11-point lead in its favor. Kristyn Goshay played a huge role in the spurt with nine points, while Chrisalyn Boston added eight.

The Chargers pulled within five following a 3-pointer from Selna Pruitt with two minutes to go, but CSU was able to close the win out at the free throw line.

Goshay was Columbus State's leading scorer with 15 points, thanks to a 4-for-8 performance from beyond the arc. Boston posted a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double to go along with three assists and three blocks. Imani Arnold and Alycia Reese added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

As a team, the Lady Cougars shot 37.7% (23-for-61) and were 6-of-25 on their 3-point attempts. CSU was 11-for-18 (61.1%) from the free throw line.

It was a back-and-forth first half with the lead changing hands 10 times over the first 20 minutes. CSU held a 19-18 lead after the first quarter and held a  24-20 second-quarter lead until UAH got hot from deep. The Chargers used a 15-4 run, hitting on 6-of-8 attempts from the floor, to grab a 35-28 lead before the break.

Rogers paced UAH with 14 points, going 6-for-7 from the floor. She also had a team-high eight rebounds. Pruitt (14) was the only other player in double figures.
