Softball Set for Weekend Play

CSU will play in the Hail Mary Classic on Friday and then two more games on Sunday against AUM and SHC.

COLUMBUS - The weather continues to cause havoc on the Columbus State University softball schedule, but the Cougars are still slated to play four-games over President's Day weekend.

Instead of the original schedule, the Cougars will now try to get a pair of games in on Friday and Sunday in different locations. CSU will begin with matchups against the University of Alabama-Huntsville (2 p.m.) and Mississippi College (4:30 p.m.) in Albertville, Ala. at the Sand Mountain Park & Amphitheater before traveling to Montgomery, Ala. to take on Auburn University-Montgomery (noon) and Spring Hill College (2:15 p.m.) on Sunday.

Columbus State is coming off a pair of victories over Tuskegee University last weekend to open the 2021 season. CSU had an 8-2 win in game one before a 10-0 5-inning shutout in the finale.

• Sophomore Hannah Rose Corbin picked up right where she left off in the shortened 2020 season. In the doubleheader sweep against Tuskegee University, she cranked a solo home run and hit a double, collected three RBIs and picked up a victory in the circle. 

• A native of Powder Springs, Ga., Laura Harris started her Cougar career strong thanks to hitting a 3-run homer in her first collegiate at-bat. She finished the day going 3-for-5 and also added a double.  

• Sophomore Morgan Elston, who was the Cougars leading hitter in 2020, collected three more hits against TU in the season-opening doubleheader. In game two, she knocked in four thanks to a 3-run homer in the third. 

• Junior Riley Patton was impressive in her first start for Columbus State. The transfer tossed four scoreless innings while striking out eight.
