Softball Hosting Two Doubleheaders this Weekend

The Cougars will play two home doubleheaders this weekend; AUM on Saturday and Emmanuel on Sunday.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University softball team is set to host two doubleheaders this weekend at Cougar Field. Columbus State is looking to gain a win in a rematch against Auburn University Montgomery on Saturday, Feb. 20 before playing Emmanuel College for the first time this season on Sunday, Feb. 21.

Columbus State (4-2) is coming off of 2-2 record over last weekend, including run-ruling Spring Hill College 8-0 in Montgomery, Ala. in its last game of the week.

Fans will be permitted to this weekend's doubleheaders; however, COVID-19 health and safety protocols must be followed including:

• Masks/Face Coverings are required to be worn at all times while on the campus of Columbus State University

• At least six feet of physical distancing between spectators

• Temperature checks upon entry

In addition, limited fan stand-seating at Cougar Field will be available with additional green space for viewing opportunities.

• True Freshman Laura Harris continues to be a spark in the CSU lineup leading the team in almost every hitting category. Harris went 2-for-2 with her second home run of the season in the previous game against Spring Hill.

• Second-year sophomore Hannah Rose Corbin leads Columbus State in runs, scoring six, and is right behind Harris with a .364 batting average. Corbin also has two homers this season, including one against AUM as it was one of only three hits off of the Warhawks. Corbin is 1-1 in the circle with 10 strikeouts in 12.1 innings.

• Second-year freshman Caitlyn Canady had a strong performance last weekend for the Cougars as she went 1-for-2 against AUM and 1-for-3 with an RBI-triple against SHC. The centerfielder has scored five runs and has a .333 on-base percentage to go along with a stolen base so far in 2021.

• Last Friday, third-year junior Kirstin Reynolds went 2-for-3 against Mississippi College before knocking a two-run homer against SHC. Reynolds is 3-for-8 this season (.375 avg.) with a 1.125 OPS.

• Fifth-year senior pitcher Harley Dawson was in contention for the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week as she tossed two wins against MC and SHC over last weekend. Dawson allowed two runs in 10.1 innings of work and recorded six strikeouts against MC in a complete-game effort. Dawson is in the top-10 in the conference in ERA (0.57), strikeouts (11) and opponent batting average (.159).

• AUM will enter Columbus with a 2-0 record after taking down the Cougars 9-1 and Spring Hill 11-4 last weekend in Montgomery.

• In the Warhawk win against CSU, starter Alanna Goble allowed just one run, the Corbin solo homer, while Kathryn Fallen and Molly Cobb each had two hits at the plate.

• AUM hit four homers in the weekend finale versus SHC as both Abby Krueger and Gia Martin went 2-for-3 with a triple and home run. The duo combined to drive in five of the 11 runs with the Warhawks pounding out 11 hits at the plate. In the circle, Cydney Sizemore struck out nine to pick up the victory.

• Dating back to last season, AUM has won nine straight. The Warhawks went 8-1 in true road games in 2020 before the shutdown.

• Emmanuel is in the midst of a busy week as the Lions will wrap up a six-game stretch in Columbus on Sunday. The Lions are currently 2-2 with a doubleheader against Catawaba College on Saturday before heading south to take on the Cougars.

• The Lions have swept and been swept in doubleheaders so far this season. On Feb. 10, EC defeated Limestone University 4-3 and 1-0 in Franklin Springs, Ga. The second game went into extras with Jewels Ayers coming up with the walk-off single in the eighth. The clutch hit gave Sydney Black the win in the complete-game shutout performance. In game one, the Lions swiped five stolen bases, including two from 
Brighton Har, while Isabelle Pet went 2-for-3 with a double and home run.

• In their latest action against Tusculum University on Wednesday, Emmanuel produced only three runs in the pair of games, falling 5-1 and 8-2. Mackensie Hogan went 3-for-6 at the plate with two doubles.

• Hogan has a hit in all four games this season for the Lions, posting a .455 average and 1.136 OPS.
