Edmond, Okla. - The No. 5 Columbus State University women's tennis team lost 4-0 to No. 7 West Florida in the consolation bracket of the ITA National Indoor Championship. The tournament is taking place at Edmond Center Court.
CSU (1-3) will play in the seventh-place match on Sunday against No. 16 Midwestern State University at 9 a.m.
UWF (4-1) won two of the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the morning. Amanda Citre and Luise Sachs were the winners for Columbus State as the duo took first doubles 6-4 over Irene Recuenco and Manon Meulenberg 6-4. However, the Argonauts seized control from there. Karolina Silwanowicz and Samantha Echevarria were victorious over Valentina Abrile and Sara Ramirez Goncalves 6-3 at second doubles.
In the swing match, Berta Bonardi and Sara Yigin beat Yelena Labat and Beatriz Lopez 6-3 to give West Florida the 1-0 lead.
UWF raced to three singles wins to complete the 4-0 victory. Recuenco got revenge over Sachs from doubles at second singles. She defeated the Lady Cougar 6-3, 6-2. Lopez fell 6-0, 6-1 at first singles to Bonardi, while Yigin beat Ramirez Goncalves 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth spot to conclude play.
Abrile was the only Lady Cougars to be leading her match when the match was called. She was up a set at third singles against Silwanowicz.
