COLUMBUS - The No. 14 Columbus State University women's tennis team picked up a dominating 7-0 win over Georgia Southwestern University in its 2021 home opener Friday afternoon.
The Lady Cougars improved their record to 4-3 with the win and are now 2-0 in Peach Belt Conference play. GSW drops to 3-1 and 0-1 in league action.
Each CSU doubles pair had no problem getting wins against their GSW opponents. At first doubles, the team of Candice Paya and Beatriz Lopez swept Hannah Hogg and Andrea Bustamante 6-0. Amanda Citre and Luise Sachs won third doubles in a similar fashion, recording the 6-0 win. Sara Ramirez Goncalves and Valentina Abrile weren't pressed in a 6-1 win at second doubles over Coraline Lamer and Carla Sorroche.
Singles were very similar to doubles, as each Lady Cougar picked up a win. Lopez started the winning parade with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Hogg at number one singles. Sachs continued the success as she overwhelmed Sophia Winters 6-3, 6-0 at second singles. Abrile played in the third spot and was victorious over Bustamante 6-1, 6-2. Citre took fourth singles 6-1, 6-1 over Lamer.
Agostina Bigotti made her first appearance of the day at fifth singles and ran away with a 6-0, 6-2 win. In the final spot, Ramirez Goncalves was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Boynton.
Columbus State will return to the John W. Walden Tennis Center tomorrow at 10 a.m. in a non-conference matchup against No. 13 Wingate University.
