COLUMBUS -Â The Columbus State University women's tennis team dominated the University of Montevallo 6-1 Saturday afternoon. The non-conference match took place at the John W. Walden Tennis Center in Columbus.
The Lady Cougars (6-3, 2-0 PBC) cruised past the Falcons to extend their winning streak to five.
CSU swept doubles play as each pair earned a win over their UM opponents.
Amanda Citre and Luise Sachs cleanly swept Isabelle Barfoot and Courtney Piltaver 6-0 in third doubles, increasing their overall record to 8-1 as a pair. Beatriz Lopez and Candice Paya improved to 3-0 after the duo played at first doubles and beat Mireia Turro and Dorotea Hanzek in a 6-4 decision. In second doubes, the team of Valentia Abrile and Sara Ramirez Goncalves defeated Cyba Ozzor and Eva Dirr 6-3, improving to 5-2.
Five of the six Lady Cougars defeated their Falcon opponents in singles play, winning by at least three games in two sets.
Lopez improved to 5-2 on the year after the senior beat Turro in a 6-1, 6-3 decision in first singles. Paya (1-1) competed in her second singles match of the year and gained her first win with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Dirr 6-0, 6-2. Abrile and Citre both advanced to 6-1 on the spring season after both Lady Cougars beat their opponents. Abrile beat Hanzek 6-1, 6-3 at fourth singles, while Citre played in the fifth spot and defeated Victoria Rauscher 6-1, 6-2. Ramirez Goncalves was victorious over Barfoot, winning 6-2, 6-1 at sixth singles, improving her record to 5-4.
At second singles, Sachs fell to 6-3 on the season after losing a three-set match to Ozzor 1-6, 6-4, 6-10.
Columbus State will be back at the Walden Tennis Center on Saturday, March 27 as the Lady Cougars return to Peach Belt Conference play against Francis Marion University. The match will start at 11 a.m.
